Description: The Byrne Formula Grant Program was created by the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988 (Public La2 100-690) to improve the functioning of the criminal justice system in addressing drugs and violent crime. The Nebraska Crime Commission was designated by the Governor as the state agency responsible for the administration of grant funds. Nebraska receives an average award of $3.7 million. Funding Priority Areas: JAG funds support components of the criminal justice system that address drug and violent crime through the provision of services directly to individuals and/or communities by improving the effectivenss and efficiency of criminal justice systems, processes and procedures specifically related to drug and violent crime issues. Eligibility: - State agency - A unit of general local government - Indian tribe which provides its own law enforcement services Program Areas: 1. Law enforcement programs 2. Prosecution and Court Programs 3. Training of Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Personnel 4. Justice Information Sharing, Planning, Implementation and Technology Improvements Match Requirement: A 25% match for the awarded Byrne/JAG funds is required. An agency's overall budget cannot decrease because of the federal funds.
