Federal Weed and Seed Grant

Description: 

Weed and Seed: The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP), Community Capacity Development Office (CCDO) has announced that it is seeking applications from interested communities to participate in the Weed and Seed Communities Competitive Program. This program focuses on prevention, control, and reductions in violent crime, drug abuse, and gang activity. Weed and Seed initiatives use a community-based, comprehensive multi-agency approach to law enforcement, crime prevention, and neighborhood restoration. It is designed for communities with persistent high levels of serious violent crime (Part I) and corresponding social problems.

 Eligibility: Applications are limited to state, local or tribal governments or nonprofit organizations in communities with persistent high levels of serious violent crime (Part I) that have not previously been an approved Weed and Seed site. Significant involvement of the local U.S. Attorney in local initiatives is required.

 Due Dates: Draft application materials must be emailed to the local U.S. Attorney by Tuesday, November 10, 2009. Final applications must be submitted through the federal grants.gov website by 8:00 p.m. (EST) on Tuesday, December 1, 2009.
