Description: Overview: The Kansas Department of Transportation Safety and Technology strives to improve the quality of life for the traveling public by reducing the number of motor vehicle fatalities, injuries and crashes. The Bureau influences human behavior by identifying problems and implementing effective educational and enforcement programs focusing on prevention. A combination of federal & state funds the agency directs the state wide education, deterrence and prevention of serious vehicle injuries. Funds are used to support the States' Performance Plans, whcih contain performance goals and performance measures, based on the National Priority Program Areas and other problems identified bu the States, and Highway Safety Plans for the implementation of programs that address a wide range of highway safety problems that are related to human factors and the roadways environment and that contribute to the reduction of crashes, deaths, and injuries resulting thereof. Program Areas: - Impaired Driving - Emergency Medical Services - Motorcycle Safety - Police Traffic Services - Roadway Safety - Safe Communities - Occupant Protection - Traffic Records NHTSA grants are handled through the KDOT Traffic Safety Section.
